Weekly Specials Each week we have daily specials. On PE days please make sure your student has gym shoes and proper attire for being active. Here's our schedule: Monday: PE and Music Tuesday: Art Wednesday: PE and Musinc Thursday: Library Friday: We have a rotating schedule between PE, Art and Music
Homework Information Homework packets come home every Friday in our Friday Folders. PLEASE HELP your student complete the packets at home each week. Often the math is tricky so it's always helpful to have a parent review work at home before it come back to school. This is also a great opportunity for you to help reinforce concepts one-on-one that are challenging for your student. Homework packets are due the following Friday. Please help remind your student to keep the packet stapled together and have their name on their work.
Important Lunchroom Information The cost of lunches is now $2.25. Please make sure you send in lunch money on a regular basis so your student has money in their account for lunches. Thank you!
3rd Grade Information 2016-2017
Third Grade Information Packet Below is a copy of my "General Information" packet. I will update this further in September as schedules and information are passed along to me. I will also send home a paper copy in your student's Friday Folder as soon as I have all updated information.

Homework.
Homework Packets come home every Friday. They are due the FOLLOWING FRIDAY. Please help give your student a reminder to hand these in at the end of the week.
Spelling Weekly lists are used in class. We do not have spelling tests at this point but instead our focus is on working with word patterns and applying these skills to our daily reading and writing.
Allergies If your child has a food allergy or any other allergy that I should know about please let me know in writing what the allergy is and any procedures you would like me to follow. We do have peanut allergies in the classroom this year. Please do NOT send in any snacks or treats that contain peanuts. It is our goal not to have anything containing peanuts travel into the classroom during anytime. I really appreciate your support with helping make our classroom a safe a healthy place for everyone. . Thank you for your support and cooperation.
Holiday Parties
We have 3 scheduled parties lined up for this year - Halloween, Christmas and Valentine's Day. If you would like to help out with the parties please send me an email. You can also sign up at our Open House on August 31st.
Recess
The students will be going out for recess at least twice times daily: at 11:55 am for lunch recess and again around 1:45 pm for our afternoon recess. Temperatures below zero and inclement weather will keep us inside, otherwise please dress your child so that he/she will be comfortable outside for these 15-20 minute recesses.
Weekly Schedule:Updates will be available in late August or early September
Monday:PE and Music
Tuesday: Art Wednesday: PE and Music Thursday: Library Friday: Weekly rotation between PE, Music and Art
Friday Folders Each Friday a red and white "Friday Folder" will come home. This folder will contain special notes from the office as well as our weekly papers. The items in this folder are yours to keep - the folder needs to come back to school each Monday so that they can be stuffed with new notes and reused each Friday.
Report Cards/Grades Most papers we work on in class will be checked and corrected here in class but will not have a grade or percentage score on them. Some of our more important work and all of our assessments will come home with a percentage score on them. I record these percentage scores and use them in helping to determine report card grades. Our report cards are marked on a 4, 3, 2, 1 scale. These percentages transfer to this scale based on the following guidelines: 4 = 90% - 100% 3 = 80% - 89% 2 = 70% - 79% 1 = 69% and below
Snacks We will have a morning nutritious/snack break each day around 10:30 am. Please provide your own snacks for your student. I am asking that it be relatively healthy – no chips or candy please. Friday’s are "Fun Friday Snack Days" – bring anything you want.
Water Bottles Students are welcome to bring water bottles to school to keep on their desks. Drinking water regularly is essential for hydration as well as helping keep the body alert – I have water on my desk at all times. When you send water bottles to school please make sure that the bottle is labeled with your child’s name on it and if at all possible put an old sports sock around the bottom of the bottle – this helps keep moisture off the desks (just trim the top off an old sock so that it covers the bottom two thirds of the bottle). Students are allowed to bring water bottles as long as they are used properly – chewing on the bottles, squirting water on things, or abusing the water in any way will result in loss of having the opportunity to have a water bottle in school. Water bottles do need to go home nightly to be washed – this really helps avoid spreading germs!
Birthdays We have a new policy at North Oakview this year. We are asking that students DO NOT bring in birthday treats to share with the class. There were a variety of reasons looked at when this building decision was made including an increase in our students with allergies and special health needs.
Electronic Equipment I do request that students do not bring Game Boys, any electronic games, cell phones, CD players or IPods to school. These items are easily lost, broken, or stolen. Because these items are rather costly it’s really best if they are left at home. I appreciate your support reinforcing this!
Donations We are always looking for classroom donations to help out with various projects throughout the year. If you have any of these items at home that you’d be willing to donate, please send them in: *Glue Sticks *Air freshener oil refills (Glade) *Books, games or puzzles *Zip Lock Baggies (small or large) *Book donations or Amazon cards to be used for books only ( I will always provide a list of books that were ordered for the classroom for anyone donating an Amazon card) School Rules/Expectations The entire school works with a behavior plan called P.A.W.S. (Positive Actions with Students). The four elements of PAWS are being Responsible, Respectful, Ready and Safe at all times. The students are learning how these elements are applied during all parts of their day: classroom, hallway, bathroom, cafeteria, special events recess and the bus. Please help communicate the importance of the guidelines not only here at school but throughout out daily lives.
